iQOO Z7 5G

iQOO is a Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer headquartered in Dongguan, Guangdong.[1] The company was founded on 30 January 2019[2] as a subsidiary of the consumer electronics manufacturer Vivo based in the same city.[3][4]

History[edit]

In March 2019, the world's second largest smartphone manufacturer, BBK Electronics,[5] announced iQOO as a sub-brand of Vivo as its newest member to its smartphone brand lineup along with Oppo, Vivo, Realme and OnePlus.[6] The brand was introduced in India in February 2020.[7][8] The iQOO is also a performance focused sub-brand giving more importance to build and market their phones specifically for gaming and other performance intense tasks, rather than their Vivo phones focusing mainly on camera and sound quality. The smartphone iQOO 3 introduced on 25 February 2020 is their first smartphone with Snapdragon 865 giving a competitive advantage for gamers.[9] The smartphones are sold online initially. .[10]

During 2020–2021, the iQOO introduced six smartphones in the Chinese market[11] and three smartphones in the Indian market, as of May 2021.[12]

iQOO Z7 5G Review: The Go-To Device Under Rs 20,000

The iQOO Z7 caters to a wider audience. It’s a well-balanced smartphone priced brilliantly. But not everything is perfect. Read our review to find out if you should buy it.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The iQOO Z7 is a well-balanced smartphone at this price
  • A MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC powers the phone
  • It features a 64-megapixel primary camera at the rear
  • iQOO has been able to cater to different price segments since it set foot in India. From gaming-centric smartphones at the top of the pyramid to a well-structured all-rounder at a sub-Rs 20,000 price bracket. While the latter is a very competitive market, we’ve seen some capable devices from the Chinese tech maker. To put things in perspective, the previously launched iQOO Z6 5G was a value-for-money device at a starting price of Rs 15,499. It came with a Snapdragon 695 processor, usually seen in devices priced at Rs 20,000 and above. iQOO is also known for undercutting its competition with its prices. And with that in mind, the newly launched iQOO Z7 5G seems to follow the same philosophy. This time, a MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC at the helm makes it the first device in the ‘Z’ series to switch from Qualcomm chipsets.
  • This is paired with some other major upgrades over the previous version. This includes an in-display fingerprint sensor, making it join a very limited set of phones to inherit it. Additionally, it has a 4500mAh battery, 44W fast charging and a dual-camera setup. So, can the iQOO Z7 5G live up to its legacy? And, more importantly, should you consider buying this over tough competition from Motorola and Poco? We’ve been using the device for over a week — here’s our full review.
